Winfred Rembert - 2024 wall calendar.  Winfred Rembert, who grew up in rural southwest Georgia, created vibrant, richly textured artworks of memory, witness, and celebration—a graphic diary of sorts, recalling the emotions Rembert felt as strongly as the events themselves. Many of his works were born from painful experiences under Jim Crow: picking cotton in his younger years, being unjustly incarcerated and forced to labor on chain gangs, surviving a near-lynching. But Rembert’s art is also a testament to the love he had for his community, his family, and his wife, Patsy, who encouraged him to use his leather-tooling skills to transform trauma into art and record his story for future generations. His remarkable body of work speaks to the legacy of slavery, segregation, and racial violence, and also pays tribute to the rich tradition of Black struggle, solidarity, and joy. The 12 pieces in this calendar form a snapshot of the people, places, and experiences that were most significant to Rembert throughout his life.
