Bessie Coleman - t-shirt - black
Bessie Coleman t-shirt in black. Bessie Coleman was not a Tuskegee Airman but she was a Black pioneer in the history of aviation. Coleman was born in 1892 and she was the first Black woman to earn a pilot's license. In 1920, because of racism in America, she traveled to France to earn her pilot's license and she graduated from one of France's well known aviation schools. She returned to America in 1922 and she specialized in stunt flying and parachuting and earned a living performing aerial tricks. Coleman was intelligent, beautiful and well spoken and the American press quickly proclaimed her "Queen Bess". Tragically she died in 1926 when she fell out of her aircraft during a trial run before one of her aerial shows in Jacksonville, Florida. She is still remembered and celebrated as a pioneer of women in aviation.
